HGV class 1 driver jobs in Wiltshire

Articulated work belongs to the freight transport by road industry. The 2024 Business Register and Employment Survey counted 1,250 employee jobs in it across Wiltshire, 0.59% of the 212,000 employee jobs the survey records in the area.

Trunking and tramping routes are planned around operating centres rather than around towns, so the Wiltshire figure describes where the vehicles are based, not where the drivers live. Business counts are rounded one cell at a time, so the bands sit loosely against the total. 195 of them, 86.7%, employ under ten, a lower share than most areas, so more artic work sits with medium fleets running planned trunks.

Of the freight transport by road employee jobs the 2024 survey splits by hours in Wiltshire, 350 are part time, 30.4% of the split. The middle across the South West is 24.4%, so Wiltshire sits above it, 5th of 14 areas on this measure. That is a high part-time share for road freight, and in a local industry this size a handful of jobs moves the proportion a long way.

Two further counts round out the Wiltshire picture: 130 employee jobs in postal and courier activities, and 3,880 employee jobs across freight, warehousing and courier work.

On the separate business register count of freight transport by road workplaces, Wiltshire ranks 7th of the 15 areas in the South West. The middle across the South West is 205, against 225 in Wiltshire. Across the 153 areas in England the middle is 200. Next to Wiltshire in that order sit South Gloucestershire at 240 and Cornwall at 205.

None of this counts adverts. It counts 1,250 jobs and 225 workplaces that already exist in Wiltshire, which is a different thing from what is open to apply for today.
