HGV class 2 driver jobs in Liverpool

Rigid lorry work turns up in two industries at once. Liverpool holds 1,750 employee jobs in freight transport by road and 4,000 in warehousing and storage.

The balance between those two counts says more about class 2 work in Liverpool than either number on its own. Warehousing outweighs road freight here, which usually means more distribution running out of large sites.

UK Business Counts recorded 200 freight transport by road workplaces in Liverpool at the March 2025 reference date, 15 of them employing ten people or more. 185 of them, 92.5%, employ under ten. Small yards take newly passed drivers; the larger ones set the shift patterns.

Of the freight transport by road employee jobs the 2024 survey splits by hours in Liverpool, 150 are part time, 9.1% of the split. The middle across the North West is 15.8%, so Liverpool sits below it, 23rd of 24 areas on this measure. That is a normal full-time shape for rigid work, with part-time hours mostly in weekend and relief cover.

Two further counts round out the Liverpool picture: 1,025 employee jobs in postal and courier activities, and 0.36% postal and courier activities, share of all employee jobs.

Measured on employee jobs in warehousing and storage, Liverpool ranks 4th of the 24 areas in the North West. The middle across the North West is 1,375, against 4,000 in Liverpool. Across the 153 areas in England the middle is 1,250. Next to Liverpool in that order sit Lancashire at 4,000 and Bolton at 3,500.

On the separate business register count of freight transport by road workplaces employing 10 or more, Liverpool ranks 13th of the 24 areas in the North West. The middle across the North West is 15, against 15 in Liverpool. Across the 153 areas in England the middle is 15. Next to Liverpool in that order sit Knowsley at 15 and Manchester at 15.
